The life of Brian is one of many produtions in the Monte Python movie library. The group is particularly well known for their extreme satire in the movies. This particular film was majorly a Satire of Jesus’s life, who in the movie is portrayed by the character Brian. The film takes place in Jerusalem and is controlled by Cesar and the Romans. The movie follows Brian through all of the sticky yet entertaining situations he gets himself into. Through out the movie the Romans are attempting to capture Brian, and at one point Brian falls from the ledge of a building, kicks a prophet that was rambling about nonsense over, and finds himself in front of a crowd expecting him to prophesize. The only option he has to avoid the Romans after him is to act as a prophet. In doing so he becomes a visionary and for whatever reason, everyone all of a sudden seems to value what he says. With all of his nonsense talk he accumulates a following, which at one point in the movie catches him stark naked. Anyway, events follow suit and the Romans capture him and sentence him to crucifixion.

This brings us to the point in the movie where everyone seems to be sentenced to crucifixion, as there is a field of people mounted on Crosses. This part of the movie came heavy with satire as when one of the people identified themselves as a Samaritan, the person next to him was appalled because himself and his wife were supposed to be in an all Jewish section. Knowing the truth of the meaning behind that message is no laughing matter, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the truth of situation.

By the end of the movie, I had mixed feelings as to what to think about it. It seemed to start off slow, with a bunch of nonsense that was difficult to follow and relate to, but by the end of the movie the ideas and situations in which Monty Python was poking fun at became clearer and allowed me to appreciate the move. Overall I found by watching this movie that the comedic satire that Monty Python embodies is not my favorite cup of tea. Although it had its humorous points, overall I found the movie to be a bit too much on the nonsense side of things.

I feel completely the same way, the movie was complete crazy. I remember the part of the movie you've dicussed here, I agree it was a great example of sattire! Then they go on to sing that crazy song...the movie was a bit trying and I think you've been nice just saying it was a bit much on the nonsense side. That movie had me more confused in the hour and a half it was on than I have been in a long time! I'm glad I wasn't alone!
